Spirit Week

Updated: Apr 3, 2019

Spirit Week is one of our favorite weeks at OCS! Many things are happening at the school during this time of the year so the excitement is overflowing. Spirit Week is always held in March on the week before school lets out for Spring Break. March is also "National Reading Month" so we like to tie in our annual Read-A-Thon and RIF (Reading is Fundamental) Day with Spirit Week.

This year the five themed days were: Dress as your favorite book character Day, Pajama Day (RIF Day), Wacky Wednesday, Crazy Hair or Hat Day, and OCS Spirit Day. Our students and parents went above and beyond with creativity this year!

The theme for our annual Read-A-Thon was "Rocket into Reading". Students recorded the number of books and/or chapters that they read for two weeks. The school wide goal, to earn an ice cream social, was 1,500 books/chapters and our students smashed that goal reading 2,100 books/chapters! They were treated with an ice cream social, provided by the OCS PTF, on Thursday. Our top reader was Rozlyn Pegg, who read 333 chapters! WOW! Our students also raised almost $1,500 in sponsorship money.

It was a great week and we can't wait to do it again next year!
