Dear Parents of 7th graders and up:

I want to remind you of some things coming up this week. On November 10, Tuesday, we are planning to visit Aspen Ridge at 1:30. The students will be making personal pizzas. On November 11, from 8:10 to 8:25 in the morning, we are having Donuts for Dads and Special Dudes. This is a special time for the men to visit our classroom to see what’s going on and have some coffee, cider, and donuts with the students. Please plan to visit.
Thanksgiving week we are featuring on Monday – Crazy Hat & Hair day; Tuesday – Pajama day; and Wednesday (a half day) – Native American and Pilgrim day. We call this spirit week.
On Thursday, November 12, Liz Quesenberry is leading a coffee kick-off for parents who would like to help on a committee for our annual school auction. The auction is scheduled this year for January 30. Liz has already received pledged support from several parents and she has graciously agreed to oversee the auction this year. Please continue to watch for more details on this event shortly.
The following week, November 16-19 is our Scholastic book fair that will again be held in the library. Students can shop for books that interest them, as well as videos, games, and other items.
We are anxiously waiting to get our new computers. The specifications are impressive, so I’m sure the students will be very excited when we receive them. It looks like we will have them in the next week or two.
This week we will be studying the book of John, chapters 9-18. Thank you for your continued support for OCS and my classroom specifically.

May God continue to bless you,

Mr. Johnson

Dear Parents of 7th graders & up:

We’re off and running in the upper grades. We’ve had a few issues with our computers and just trying to get off the ground with our new program/classes in Sevenstar. However, we managed to have a productive week and the students seem to enjoy the online courses.
We are listening to the New Testament on tape and are averaging two chapters a day starting in Matthew. We stop the tape whenever there are questions or if the teacher wants to ask questions or discuss what we’ve heard. So far this pace seems very workable.
Next week on Monday we will be having a rally in the Matz Center to get excited about our golf fund raiser. Our class was the first class to decorate our door for the golf outing and all the doors in the school that have been decorated are nicely done. You should come in to see them.
Kristi from Aspen Ridge will be in to talk with our class on Friday, September 18 to prep them for our first visit in October, on the 13th. We are supposed to be there by 1:30 in the afternoon. If you think you can help by being a driver on that day, please let me know. Thanks.
Vanessa Matheny has graciously volunteered to lead chapel in our classroom for the foreseeable future. She will focus on the proper way to revere and worship God. We are excited about starting this next Tuesday. Come and join if you wish. We will start about 9:15 or so.

God bless you and your family,

Mr. Johnson
